About Bess Bistro in Downtown Austin, TX
Bess is an authentic bistro in the Stratford Arms building at 500 West Sixth Street, Austin’s Old Pecan Street. Originally the Stratford Apartments built in 1918, the vintage building’s old bank vault is Bess’ kitchen, a treasury of great food, today. Where coins and currency were once counted out, carefully selected beers, wines and liquors are served from a stunning pewter bar custom-made in Montbazon.

The History of Bess Bistro
An idea in the making for 4 years, historic brick columns and arches, iron railings, and old timbers have been carefully preserved and complemented with solid pecan woodwork, custom tile, extraordinary etched glass, antique mirrors and artwork, to create a whimsically intimate setting for any occasion. The 6th Street entry to Bess is a canopied stairway to the Bess Experience, a unique blend of casual elegance, cheeky ease, and a European flair mixed with good ol’Southern come‘n get it.

The menu at Bess Bistro
The menu deliberately defies classification.  Creole inspired Shrimp Bess beckons comfortably beside Croque Monsieur.  Filet Mignon tantalizes while Shepherd's Pie tempts.  Natural, organic and light offerings are right at home with old fashioned Mac & Cheese and Four Cheese Lasagna. The menu's common thread is the passion of the chef.
Bess Bistro Austin Directions: Bess is located on the edge of Austin's burgeoning West 6th Street Area marked by a new stretch of 6th Street that ranges from Guadalupe Street to West Avenue.  Bess Bistro is on the Northwest corner of 6th and San Antonio.  Parking can be scarce.  Valet Parking is available and pay parking is adjacent in the post office parking lot.

From Mopac:  Heads towards downtown and take the 5th Street exit.  Go past Lamar Blvd and turn left on San Antonio (just before Guadalupe).  Bess will be ahead on the corner of 6th and San Antonio.

From IH 35 (and Hwy 71):  Head towards downtown and take the 6th Street exit.  Follow it through historic 6th Street past Congress and Guadalupe and Bess will be ahead on your right.  Parking in the post office at 6th and Guadalupe is a solid option.
