About Mount Bonnell - Austin, TX
Austin's Mount Bonnell is one of Austin's oldest tourist attractions being documented as far back as 1850. It is the highest point within Austin City Limits at 785 feet, but is actually smaller than Mt. Larson directly across from Mt. Bonnell but located in West Lake Hills. A wonderful place to picnic in the sun, Mt. Bonnell contains views of Lake Austin and the Pennybacker or 360 Bridge as well as wonderful vistas of downtown. The area is a short hike from the road and there is no entrance fee.   It's a great place to catch a picnic and enjoy some amazing views!

A Romantic Side Note About Mt Bonnell
There is a legend that Mt. Bonnell was once called Antoinette's Leap, named after a damsel who leaped to her death to avoid capture from Indians that killed her lover, who fought to his death to defend her. Now generally considered safe, Mt. Bonnell is one of the most romantic locations in Austin. Lovers: keep your heads clear and avoid walking too close to the cliffs! Parents should keep an eye on their children as well.

Kayak Bat Watching Tours from Live Love Paddle
Paddle a kayak to see and learn about one of the World's Largest Urban Bat Colonies in Austin Texas!  They meet up at Joe's Crab Shack on Lady Bird Lake and then kayak up the lake to see the bats at the Congress Avenue Bridge.  They're the only company in Austin that offers bat tours via kayak.   Each group receives a free appetizer card from Joe's Crab Shack.   Prices are only $35 per person and tandem boats are available.  The minimum age on bat-watching tours is 5 years of age and maximum weight is 275 lbs.  These tours are currently available on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at 6:30pm.  Reservations for Live Love Paddle Bat Tours require 3 hours notice.

SegCity Segway Bat Watching Tours
If you want to catch the bats in style, we'd recommend a bat watching tour from SegCity.  They'll gear you up and teach you how to ride a segway, take you for a spin around downtown Austin including the Texas Capitol building, Sixth Street, and finish up with a great view of the Congress Bridge Bats nightly departure.  These tours tend to fill up on the weekends and Reservations at SegCity are definitely suggested for all nights.

Directions: Mt Bonnell is located off FM 2222. Depending upon your location, it may be easier to take Koenig Lane (this street assumes several names as it crosses town) until it turns into FM 2222 on the West side of Mopac. Alternatively, you can take Capital of Texas Highway to Mopac and go North until you reach FM 2222 or US 183 to Mopac and head South to FM 2222. Head West from Mopac on FM 2222 until you reach Mt. Bonnell Road and turn left. This road curves through several hills until you reach the parking lot on your right. Take the stairs from the parking lot to the vista.

FM 2222 is also accessible from Loop 360, in which case you will need to go east and turn right on Mt. Bonnell Road.
