Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant in downtown Austin
A landmark of delicious food and drink awaits you at the Rio Grande, adjacent to Austin’s Convention Center in the heart of the city's  vibrant downtown. The Rio Grande will become an important part of any visit to the capitol city, offering an award-winning combination of freshly prepared TexMex food, legendary margaritas, and a lively, energetic atmosphere.

For first timers, we highly recommend the Fajitas Rio Grande, Mahi Mahi Salad, Enchiladas Del Mar or Chile Rellenos. The restaurant features beautifully hand painted tables, an indoor/outdoor bar, an indoor fountain, original artwork from local artisans, and unique garage-door-style windows.

The Magic of Rio Grande Margaritas
So what makes 'em so special that they come with a three drink limit?  Is it a secret ingredient? Or is it just the fact that everyone's having fun at the Rio that makes the drinks (and food) extra delicious?  We can assure it's a little of both.  But don't take our word for it, come check it out for yourself, and let us know what you think.

The Menu at Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant
Rio Grande Austin Table of FoodFrom the outset, the Rio has been committed to providing the highest quality of food, drink, and service that we know how. Our recipes are rooted mainly in the heart of traditional tex-mex food found in Houston and Austin where the owners were raised. Travels to Mexico and Guatemala, as well as a pursuit of healthy and vegetarian recipes have helped shape our menu into what it is today. We spend hours each day preparing our food from scratch. We fry chips, make tortillas, salsas and sauces fresh every day. We feel our commitment to quality and freshness in our food and drink is very unique in today's restaurant industry.

Top 10 Menu Favorites at Rio Grande Mexican Restaurant

Enchiladas de Queso - We smother our enchiladas in a mild Tex-Mex enchilada sauce and cheese, then oven-bake them to bubbly perfection. Completely satisfying as is—but we’ll add green chile, hot green chile, veggie green chile or mild ranchero sauce on request. Our delicately spiced Spanish rice and black beans add the finishing touch. Our cheese enchiladas are filled with a hearty blend of cheeses with a touch of onion — classic Tex-Mex!
Tacos Al Carbon - Choice of corn or flour tortillas stuffed with marinated, flame-broiled fajita steak. With Spanish rice, black beans and our own cilantro-rich pico de gallo.
Taco de Mahi Mahi - Succulent Mahi Mahi, pan-seared with our own fragrant spice blend. A spoonful of our mango salsa brings all the flavors together! Served in soft corn tortillas with steamed vegetables and Spanish rice.
Burrito de Carne - A jumbo fresh flour tortilla wrapped around grilled fajita steak and Cheddar, then smothered with your choice of green chile, hot green chile, veggie green chile or mild ranchero sauce. Wrap ’em up with rice and beans? Just ask!
Ensalada de Pollo - Our entrée size salad comes with tossed greens, fresh avocado, vine ripened tomato, carrot and red onion, and topped with marinated grilled chicken. Tortilla strips add the right crunch. Ask your server about our freshly made dressings.
Fajitas - Our specialty! If you’re hungry, count on Rio fajitas to truly satisfy. All served with our signature grilled veggies, freshly simmered Spanish rice, black beans, homemade guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo and tortillas. Choose from steak, chicken, shrimp or veggie.
Chile Rellenos - Ours are handmade every day. We stuff mild New Mexico green chiles with Monterey Jack, cream cheese and a sauté of green peppers, onions and mushrooms. Then we batter and deep-fry them before smothering with your choice of sauce. Spanish rice and black beans provide the finishing touch.
Enchiladas Espinaca - Blue corn tortillas stuffed with fresh spinach, sautéed yellow squash, red onion and cheeses. Baked with our own tomatillo sauce. Served with Spanish rice and seasoned black beans.
Tortilla Soup - Made with guajillo chilies and chicken broth topped with fresh cilantro, jack cheese, avocado and crispy tortilla strips.
Camarónes Diabla - Large Gulf shrimp sautéed with our chile de árbol sauce and served with freshly simmered Spanish rice, black beans and steamed vegetables.
