Imax Austin Interior
Come to the only IMAX Theatre in Austin at The Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum!  Innovative IMAX technology creates the ultimate film experience, capturing breathtaking images of unsurpassed size and impact on a screen more than six stories tall, accompanied by wraparound digital sound. With both 2-D and 3-D capabilities, this larger-than-life theatre features films that are both entertaining and enlightening.  The following films are currently showing:

Shine a Light: The IMAX Experience poster.Shine a Light
Shine a Light: The IMAX Experience documents an astounding stage performance by what is indisputably the world's greatest rock and roll band, filmed by America's preeminent director, and an all-star crew of the motion picture industry's leading cinematographers.

Academy Award®-winning director Martin Scorsese's concert documentary will show the world the Rolling Stones as they've never seen before. Filmed at the famed Beacon Theatre in New York City in Fall 2006, Scorsese assembled a legendary team of cinematographers to capture the raw energy of the legendary band.

Unlike Scorsese's previous big-event music films (he worked as an editor on Woodstock and shot the definitive documentary on The Band for The Last Waltz), Shine a Light focuses on the music, dispensing with the talking head device and opting instead for spare pops of vintage newsreel and TV footage as the only non-performance-based commentary on the band.

Grand Canyon Adventure 3D: River at Risk
Set against the immense backdrop of a natural treasure, Grand Canyon Adventure 3D: River at Risk will take audiences on an exhilarating adventure down the Colorado River in the company of a team of explorers who are committed to bringing awareness to global water issues.

One of the world's mightiest rivers, the Colorado, no longer reaches the sea. Every drop of river water is allocated to agriculture and populations along the way, many of whom don't even realize their connection to the river.  Narrated by Robert Redford, the river journey is a compelling and emotional personal story for the film's main characters, two fathers and their 18-year old daughters who soon will be leaving home to make their own way.

Dolphins and Whales 3D: Tribes of the Ocean
Dive into a new immersive and highly emotional adventure with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Dolphins and Whales 3D. This awe-inspiring documentary film narrated by Daryl Hannah will take you from the dazzling coral reefs of the Bahamas to the warm depths of the waters of the exotic Kingdom of Tonga for a close encounter with the surviving tribes of the ocean.

Through the powerful IMAX® theatre medium and stunning images captured for the very first time in 3D, view their lives and habitats as never-before-seen. You will come so close to wild dolphins and belugas you will virtually touch them. You will witness the profound love of a Humpback mother for her newborn calf, and will come eye-to-eye with singing Humpback males. You will meet an orca, the mighty King of the ocean, and enjoy a wonderful moment with the gentle manatee.

Sea Monsters 3D
National Geographic transports audiences — through stunning photo-realistic computer-generated 3D animation — back to the Late Cretaceous period more than 65 million years ago, when a great inland sea divided North America in two and covered most of Texas.

The film follows a family of Dolichorhynchops, also known informally as “Dollies,” as they traverse ancient waters populated with saber-toothed fish, prehistoric sharks and giant squid.

On their journey the Dollies encounter other extraordinary sea creatures: lizard-like reptiles called Platecarpus that swallowed their prey whole like snakes; Styxosaurus with necks nearly 20 feet long and paddle-like fins as large as an adult human; and at the top of the food chain, the monstrous Tylosaurus, a predator with no enemies.
